Can I Play Outside?

When temperatures dipped to a dangerous level, I didn't let my kids play outside. To avert complaints, I hung a wet T-shirt outside the window and used a stopwatch to see how quickly the shirt would freeze. In one trial, it froze solid in less than two minutes. This object lesson helped them understand why I said they couldn't play outside.
